Olympic Steel’s DEI work began many years ago as a women’s development initiative. Since that time, we’ve broadened the scope of our efforts and built a sustainable program, working with industry peers and other outside partners to gather insights and best practices that will help shape the future of our organization. Our DEI strategy draws upon those learnings, as well as input from our leadership teams and employees.

In 2023, after several years of work “behind the scenes,” we achieved a major milestone in our efforts by rolling out Olympic Steel’s DEI Strategy to members of our local division Leadership Teams and engaging employees. In the second half of the year, we completed internal recruitment for employee volunteers and onboarding for our DEI Council Sub-Committees. We’re excited to see this team of passionate, engaged employees drive our ongoing Company culture enrichment efforts.

DEI is about our Company’s culture and creating a welcoming place for all employees – one that will allow us to attract, engage, develop and retain team members from every available talent pool. While our focus is not on the numbers, as it relates to filling quotas and forced selections, we recognize the need to monitor employee demographics as a way to identify opportunities to continue our growth, as it relates to recruitment, inclusion and engagement efforts. We want our teams to reflect the diverse communities where we live and work. We know that the unique insights and experiences offered across a diverse team are what will fuel our safe, profitable growth.
