Cristina Harbaugh

Operational Excellence Intern

Summer Intern Project

“My project focused on improving the efficiency of the Pro/Eco Slitter at Olympic Steel’s Minneapolis, MN facility. I wanted to find ways to boost production and profitability, so I reviewed the slitter’s production history, performed time studies, and tested various theories and possibilities. I found that the facility could enhance performance by making several changes: scheduling higher tonnage jobs (full coils), reducing changeover times and processes, minimizing breakdowns, and depending on employee availability, running a four-person workflow.”
