Adrian Medina

Industrial Engineer/Safety Intern

Summer Intern Project

“I focused on improving workplace safety. Specifically, conducting Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) on all 20-plus operations at both Metal-Fab facilities, identifying safety hazards and finding opportunities for improving operations. I revised the facility’s JSA form and created updated safety guides for the operations. The JSA’s outlined recommended actions and required personal protective equipment (PPE). The simplified JSA process and the added practical safety measures will reduce risks and promote a safer work environment.”

  • Why did you choose to intern for Olympic Steel?
I always enjoyed putting myself in challenging situations to ultimately test the skills and will to learn and overcome those challenges. I know that Olympic Steel will challenge me but also grow me into a versatile person towards newly tough challenges.

  • What do you hope to accomplish during your time here at Olympic Steel?
I hope to accomplish the skills to take on tougher challenges and to network with the employees of Olympic Steel. To prick the brain of those employees to learn more knowledge an to be open with working with Olympic Steel in the future.

  • What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to hang out with friends and spend time doing outside activities. Such as playing basketball, kayaking, and rock climbing. I also like learning new skills on my own whether it be sowing or learning a language or coding.

  • What is your proudest moment so far?
The moment where my GPA was at its lowest and decided to completely focus on academics, where my GPA grew a whole 0.2 after two semesters. In that moment the dedication and discipline for myself showed I can achieve anything I sent my goals to.

  • What is your favorite quote?
"The will must be stronger than the skill.”
